Vigor Seattle Maritime Festival 2014



The 2015 Seattle Maritime 101 and Vigor Seattle Maritime Festival are designed to showcase and celebrate our Five Star Working Waterfront. More than 30 festivals, special events, public tours and other activities area planned from April through May. The highlight will be the annual Vigor Seattle Maritime Festival family Fun Day at Lake Union Park from 11 a.m. – 5 p.m. on Saturday, May 9.

April 15

Celebration of International Trade, the Shipping Industry and the new Seaport Alliance, Noon

“The Future of Regional Shipping” will be the topic of a luncheon sponsored by the Seattle and Tacoma Propeller Clubs at noon at Salty’s Restaurant. Commissioners from the Ports of Seattle and Tacoma are scheduled to speak. For reservations, Marine Exchange of Puget Sound, 206.443.3830

17th Annual Maritime Career Day, 9 a.m. – 2 p.m.

Georgetown Campus of South Seattle Community College, 6737 Corson Avenue South

Come meet with representatives from more than 30 businesses, maritime organizations and training schools! Enjoy cool demonstrations and industry displays. Career day is primarily targeted toward middle school and older students, as well as adults interested in a new job or career. Hands-on Maritime Career Day at Lake Union Park, 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.

Industry teams compete in building a boat from standard materials starting at 9 a.m. Judging at 3 p.m., with racing at South Lake Union scheduled for 4 p.m. Sponsored by WorkBoat magazine and the International WorkBoat Show.

Presented by the Port of Seattle

Discover the working waterfront in South Lake Union and on the Ship Canal. Learn about Fishermen’s Terminal. Board at Lake Union one-half hour prior to each departure. There is a limit of 250 guests for each tour. There is a limit of four tickets per adult, 18 years or older.


1:10 p.m.                                     Coast Guard Sea-Air Rescue Demonstration


1:30 p.m.                                     Survival Suit Races

This prestigious, exciting and fun event will feature teams of four members. At the starting gun, teams put on their survival suits, jump into the warm waters of Lake Union, swim to a life raft and climb aboard. The fastest team wins the competition and the trophy. Presented by Compass Courses Maritime Training.


3:30 p.m.                                     Lake Union/Ship Canal Tour

Presented by the Port of Seattle (see details from 1 p.m. tour).


4 p.m.                                           Workboat World Invitational Boat Building Competition Races
